How to Enjoy Chocolate This Summer (Without It Melting on You)

Lefevre Chocolate artisan Belgian truffle gift box on a sunny garden table with Champagne and strawberries in a summer heatwave

We are not fans of summer - and not just because of what it does to chocolate! It just isn't our vibe.

At Lefevre Chocolate, every truffle we make is handcrafted fresh to order in small batches in Shropshire. That means no preservatives, no shortcuts and unfortunately, no tolerance for a 60°C plus heatwave in the back of a delivery van.

So during periods of extreme heat, we make the decision to pause shipping. Not because we want to - trust us, we'd love nothing more than to send you a beautiful box of truffles right now but because we refuse to let your chocolates arrive as a puddle. You deserve better than that.

In the meantime, here's how to make the most of any chocolate you have at home this summer.

🌡️ Store Them Right

Chocolate's enemy is heat and humidity not cold. If you have truffles at home:

  • Keep them away from strong-smelling foods as chocolate absorbs odours easily
  • Don't freeze them as the texture suffers when they thaw
  • If you do need to pop them in the fridge - take them out 10–15 minutes before eating so they come back to room temperature and the flavours open up fully

🍫 Serve Them Summer-Style

Truffles straight from the fridge on a hot day are genuinely delicious - slightly firmer, intensely flavoured and they melt slowly on the tongue rather than in your fingers. Try them:

  • Alongside a glass of chilled Champagne or a cold brew coffee
  • As a post-BBQ dessert passed around the garden
  • Paired with fresh strawberries for a Wimbledon-worthy spread
  • Broken over vanilla ice cream for an instant upgrade

☀️ Why We Pause Shipping in the Heat

Artisan Belgian chocolate is a living thing. The cocoa butter, the ganache, the hand-painted shells - all of it is sensitive to temperature. A standard courier van in a UK heatwave can reach temperatures well above 60°C. That's not a journey we're willing to put your chocolates through.

🔔 Be the First to Know When We're Back

We'll be resuming shipping as soon as temperatures drop to a safe level. The best way to know the moment we're back? Join the Lefevre Chocolate Club.

Club members get first access to new collections, exclusive offers and the first heads-up when shipping resumes after a heatwave pause.
