Every year on 7th July, the world comes together to celebrate chocolate. World Chocolate Day marks the anniversary of chocolate's introduction to Europe in 1550 and for us here at Lefevre Chocolate, it's one of our favourite days of the year.
A Brief History Worth Savouring
Chocolate has a rich and fascinating story. The cacao bean was first cultivated by the ancient Mesoamerican civilisations: the Olmecs, Mayans and Aztecs who consumed it as a bitter ceremonial drink. This style of consumption can be seen operating around the UK today at all the wonderful ceremonial cacao gatherings that happen. When Spanish explorers brought cacao back to Europe in the 16th century, it was transformed with sugar and milk into the indulgent treat we know and love today.
